7 Great Vegan Places to Try This Veganuary

Veganuary 2023… the perfect chance to rethink how what you’re eating could be impacting both your health and the planet. Whether you want to reduce your carbon footprint or try out an alternative diet and lifestyle, reducing your consumption of meat and dairy products can have a huge impact.

What’s more, Veganuary provides a great opportunity to try new restaurants across London! Veganuary in London is growing in popularity every year, with everything from vegan Mexican to vegan Indian food out there for you to enjoy. Here’s our list of the 7 best vegan places in London to explore this year.

Looking to celebrate Veganuary in London with great entertainment as well as great food? Head to Swingers to enjoy an elevated take on crazy golf, with country club and seaside resort decor and incredible street food at every turn. Both our City Menu and West End Menu have plenty of vegan options for your Veganuary visit.

At both Swingers locations, you can enjoy Patty&Bun’s signature Vegan Ari Gold Burger (pictured above) with a plant-based patty, vegan cheese, pickled onion, ketchup and vegan smokey mayo. Or if you’re looking for something a little lighter, you can snack on Breddos Pollo Con Mole with EatPlanted vegan chicken, beetroot mole, spring onions and salsa macha.

And at Swingers West End, don’t miss the loaded Vegan Pamela sandwich from Jefferies, featuring a mouthwatering vegan fried chicken patty and smoked garlic aioli.

Serving wonderful plant-based foods in London for over 20 years, Mildreds is a must-visit for Veganuary 2023. You’ll enjoy a range of unique burgers, from vegan alternatives for Korean fried chick’n to BBQ pulled pork, and sharing starters like patatas bravas and nachos. Mildreds consciously tries to minimise food waste and takes pride in using locally sourced ingredients. Come for breakfast or brunch to get your hands on delicious kimchi toast, chilaquiles and pancakes – or if you’re looking for something a little sweeter, opt for crème brúlèe or vegan cake with a coffee.

This restaurant also features carefully arranged, Instagram-worthy plates which look as good as they taste! Mildreds even has its own recipe book, if you’re looking for colourful culinary inspiration – and especially if you intend to continue your vegan diet post-January.

Made in Hackney (Vegan Cooking Classes)

Take Veganuary 2023 to a new level by learning to make your own delicious plant-based dishes. Made in Hackney offers classes both online and in person, and can really help if you want to continue with your vegan journey beyond January 2023.

Their Hackney Takeaway course is a great place to start if you want to create healthy, vegan versions of your favourite takeaways. Think Mexican wraps, Caribbean food, falafel wraps, pizza and more. The Healthy Baking course, meanwhile, is perfect for learning to create your favourite sweet treats. You’ll replace the sugar in cakes, pastries and biscuits with plant-based sweeteners and make wonderful, guilt-free seasonal desserts.

Purezza Camden (Vegan Pizza and Pasta)

For some of the best vegan pizza and pasta in London (not to mention the largest venue for it!), head to Purezza in Camden. Featuring environmentally conscious ingredients and even a plant-based mozzarella perfected over years in a food lab, Purezza allows you to delight in your favourite Italian foods without feeling guilt for the planet.

Try the classics – Margherita pizza or stone-baked lasagna – or opt for something a little different, such as the moreish plant-based salmon and cream cheese pizza, or the Pepperoni and Agave pizza of vegan pepperoni, chilli-infused agave and homemade parm crumb. With dishes like these, Purezza is undoubtedly one of the best vegan restaurants in the UK – and the space full of recycled furnishings and the strong community feel only add to this. You can even bring your four-legged friends to try out their dog menu!

Mali Vegan Thai (Vegan Thai Food)

Plates of vegan Thai food from Mali Thai, including skewers, small bites and sauces.

An authentic Thai eatery, Mali is an intimate family restaurant where you can enjoy some of the best vegan food in London. Settle down with family and friends and enjoy sharing dishes like Ka Prow Moo Krob Tip (vegan pork with chilli), Pad Kee Mao (vegan duck, mushroom and fresh peppercorn) and Gyo Grob Tom Yum Kluk Klik (deep fried dumplings). Or consider ordering a takeaway for nights when you’re craving something a bit different!

Mali is particularly renowned for its Por Pia Dok Mai: fresh pea flowers & vegetable rolls with refreshing citrus dipping sauce. If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, you couldn’t do better than this.

En Root (Vegan Indian Food)

Several bowls of vegan Indian curries and other treats, complete with a bowl of turmeric rice and naan on the side.

For those looking to spice things up this Veganuary, En Root is the place to be. With unique dishes of seasonal vegetables and locally sourced ingredients, they’ll help you nourish your body while caring for the planet at the same time. They’ve also got a great little space in Clapham, ideal for a quick but satisfying lunch break!

Their full Indian brunch is also a must-have this January, and we highly recommend tucking into the plantain and samosa chaats or the tandoori cauliflower wings and pakora burgers. En Root also sells their own hot sauce – which is just what you need to liven up your dishes at home well beyond January 2023.

Ruby’s of London (Vegan Baked Goods)

Pink-iced vegan cupcakes and chocolate chip pecan cake from Ruby's of London.

In the mood to celebrate Veganuary with something sweet? Visit Ruby’s for plant-based cupcakes, brownies and donuts. Treat yourself to a chocolate cake slathered in vegan icing and topped with rose petals, honeycomb and meringue. Or enjoy a box of tempting raspberry and strawberry coated donuts!

Take a stroll around Greenwich Market to find Ruby’s, where you can sit and enjoy a coffee with a vegan dessert. Alternatively, order a box online and continue to treat yourself long after the month is over.
