It’s summertime in the city! Make the most of the long days and (hopefully) balmy evenings, and get your mates together for some old fashion fun. And the big smoke is the perfect place for such plans. There’s a boat load of London summer activities to check out, but where to start? We’ve put together the top things to do in London with your friends. Whether the vibe is chill out or going out-out, get inspired with our list of the top 10 things to do this summer in London.
If there’s one thing to be certain of during an English summer, it’s that you never know what the weather will do. It could be tipping down with rain, or so blisteringly hot that you want to take shelter. Whatever mischief mother nature is up to, Swingers is the ideal spot to escape whatever the heck is happening outside. Enjoy a game or two of crazy golf, chill out in our stylish bars, and fuel up on mouth-watering street food. It’s everything you need for a perfect day out with friends.
Who said playgrounds are just for kids? Wonderland’s soft play nights are ideal for fun-lovers and those who, well, just want to jump on and fall over things. We know who you are. Guests can climb to their heart’s content in the three storey soft play area. Video game lovers, there’s plenty for you too. Enjoy free-to-play (yes, you read that right!) retro arcade games. And as this is an 18+ event, there’s plenty of adult libations to indulge in. So let your inner child free, and have fun with your mates!
Get ready to let out proper belly laughs at The Play That Goes Wrong. We’re talking the sorts of howls that sound a bit like you’re honking. Conjured up by the delightful minds behind Mischief Theatre, everything that you think of that could go wrong, and more, goes wrong in this slapstick comedy. The Cornley Drama Society is putting on a production of a 1920s mystery and, well you can guess what happens next. We guarantee you and your friends will be laughing well after curtain call.
This is something all your pals can easily get involved in. Everyman Screen on the Canal is showing a wide range of films – for free! – at Granary Square, all summer long. Grab your picnic blankets, sunnies and sun lotion, and pick a spot to watch a movie together. Whether you’re in the mood for a blockbuster or a classic, there’s something everyone will enjoy. Movies are shown throughout the day and into the evening – it’s simply a case of turning up and chilling out.
He’s a legendary criminal, but how much do you really know about the case? The Jack the Ripper Museum is a must for true crime fans and friends with morbid fascinations. This history museum transports guests back to 1888, sharing the stories of the women who horrifically had their lives taken. Walking tours of the museum are offered daily for those who want to dig in even deeper to what happened.
Booze and friends – it just makes sense. For those who love a tipple, stop by The Ginstitute London. Choose from a set of unique experiences, and learn the history behind some of our favourite spirits, as well as how it’s made. Tasting is off course included – it’s the best bit – and you might even get the chance to create your own bespoke blend.
If you and your pals are culture vultures, then you won’t want to miss this year’s Camden Fringe festival. Whether you’re into cabaret, comedy, dance, or musicals – Camden Fringe is a smorgasbord of diverse talent. This is a great opportunity to learn about up-and-coming performers and theatre companies in intimate venues across North London. You never know, you might just discover the next big thing. Just think about the future bragging rights….
The 2024 Camden Fringe runs from 29th July to the 25th August 2024. For more information and tickets check this out.
Shoreditch-based Ballie Ballerson’s nostalgic fun and cocktail combo is a recipe for a good night. Groove along to your fave R&B and house tunes, and jump into the main event – giant ball pits. You can turn up on the night, but if you and your friends like to make a plan, pre-book your tickets or even reserve a VIP leather booth. Swanky! If you’re more of a daytime drinking bunch, make a reservation for bottomless brunch, and then go all out with a karaoke session. Time to warm up those vocal pipes.
Get ready to have your heart melted by the cutest kitties, and eat some delicious food whilst you’re at it. Java Whiskers is a temporary respite for felines looking for their forever home – it’s 50% cafe, 50% foster home. Choose between the cat or kitten lounge, and enjoy a relaxed environment full of furry friends. On the menu is freshly brewed coffee, muffins, pastries, and afternoon tea. There are two Java Whiskers in London to visit: Marylebone and White City. Heads up – the White City location is also a stone’s throw away from the massive Westfield shopping centre, meaning you can schedule in a spot of shopping after you’ve cuddled the cats.
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean it’ll be warm. For those chiller days, round up your friends and head to Draughts London. You’ll be let loose on a library of over 1,000 board games, containing everything from titles you’ve heard of to plenty you haven’t. We recommend Ticket to Ride to anyone who hasn’t played it – honestly, it’s so much fun! If you’re planning an all-day game session, you’re going to get peckish at some point. Luckily, Draughts has a full food and drink menu to order from. Enjoy Mexican street corn ribs as you obliterate the competition at Risk.
