It’s getting hot here, huh? The NYC “Second Summer” might be notoriously steamy, but we’ve got just the remedy – frozen cocktails! But where are the best spots to cool off with a frozen take on your favorite tipple? We’ve done the leg work and have pulled together all the joints you should visit. Grab your phone, grab a friend, and make the most of summer in the city!
Swingers NoMad, NYC
When it gets unbearably hot outside, you can cool down inside at one of Swingers’ (yes, six!) stylish bars. And by the way, it’s totally okay to stop in just for a drink, no need to book a crazy golf reservation! We’ve got a whole host of frozen delights on our menu. Sip on an Eternal Summer, made from Absolut Vodka, coconut cream, pineapple, orange, lemon, and orange blossom water – summery, sweet, and ready to transport you to tropical paradise. Or how about a Paloma Prima, featuring Espolòn Blanco, Grand Marnier, strawberry rose syrup, and lime. The cocktail equivalent of drinking in a blooming rose garden!
We’ve got you frozen marg lovers covered too. Our Frost Delay Margarita (the most ordered cocktail on the menu) includes Tequila Arette Blanco, Aperol, salted grapefruit cordial, and lime. Jazz it up even further with a mescal float for only $3 extra. Whilst you’re here, why not indulge in a game of mini golf on one of our three themed courses? It’d be a shame not to. We’ll meet you on the green!
Grotta Azzurra Restaurant, Little Italy
Located in Little Italy, Grotta Azzurra dates back to 1908. A former favorite of Frank Sinatra, the name translates to ‘blue grotto’ and is inspired by the isle of Capri. Intimate and cozy, expect tiled floors and Italian-inspired decor. Absolutely perfect for a hot summer’s night in the city.
Although Grotta Azzurra is primarily a restaurant, you can still stop in for frozen drinks too. So what’s on the drinks menu? It’s yes-way frosé with a chilly take on rosé wine. Think slushie for grown ups. Oh how about getting tropical with a frozen piña colada? And if you’re feeling classic, there’s also tried-and-tested frozen margaritas to enjoy.
Jue Lan Kitchen, Flatiron
Named after a group of Chinese artists in the 1930s, Jue Lan Kitchen is a modern Chinese restaurant where the historic Limelight space used to be. It’s a pretty large space, so you can choose to sit inside, or outside in the private courtyard on balmy evenings. Ideal for a chilled catch up with friends or a laid-back date night. Now let’s get onto what we’re here for – drinks!
Get fruity with frozen margaritas, available in a wide range of flavors. These fan-favorites include blend tequila, lime juice, triple sec and your choice of fresh fruit puree. Choose from mango, watermelon, blood orange, classic lime, blueberry or strawberry. Sounds delicious!
The Palm Frosé is a unique version of this popular tipple, and features Whispering Angel The Palm Rosé, vodka and fresh strawberries. Very grown up and sophisticated! For something a little different, opt for a Frozen Branson, made up with Cognac, fresh pineapple juice and coconut puree.
Loreley Beer Garden, Bowery
Hop on over to Bavarian for the evening at the Loreley Biergarten. Located in the Lower East Side, it boasts one of the largest outdoor beer gardens in Manhattan. The vibes are friendly and welcoming, great for catching up with friends after the work day finishes.
The Lorely is all about specialty cocktails, German beers, and of course frozen drinks. Put a little pep back in your step with a Frozen Espresso Martini (complete with smoked coffee aroma), or get the caffeine straight into your bloodstream with nitro brew martini.
For the full summer experience, head to the Margarita Beach Club. Select nights will see the beach brought to the city. Frozen Margaritas and frosé finished are of course on the menu!
Sally Roots, Brooklyn
Brooklyn-based Sally Roots is a friendly, neighborhood spot that you’ll feel right at home in. Think music and good vibes, with a lip smacking Caribbean-American BBQ menu. But we’re here for the cocktails! So what frozen delights can we choose from?
There’s the Sundowner – coconut, guava, orange, pineapple, and all the rums (their words verbatim!). And then there’s a Casa Loco, which mixed up strawberry, orange, lime, and tequila.
Go wild and combine them both to create the hybrid Miami Vice. Available in small, as well as fun size (if you’re willing to share).
Sveta, West Village
Sveta offers modern European faire, and a rather tempting frozen drinks menu. Expect family-style hospitality in a space where Eastern Europe and NYC meet. The decor is stylish with unique flourishes, and would make a great spot for a date.
All the chilly drinks can be found on the frozen crushers menu. Highlights include the mysterious-sounding Henny Colada, Tropic Blast with watermelon, pink lemonade, and strawberry, and the ol’ favorites Frosé and Margs.
A note to the wise – they offer free refills if you share your drink on social media and tag the restaurant. Save some dollars and have some fun!
Jaffa Cocktail and Raw Bar, Williamsburg
With indoor and outdoor space, the Jaffa Cocktail and Raw Bar is great for a summer afternoon spent with loved ones. Inspired by the coastal-city of Jaffa in Israel, this cocktail bar is a little 100-seat haven with a welcoming atmosphere.
The cocktail menu here has a citrus theme. Oranges are inextricably tied to the city of Jaffa, so you’ll find them in a lot of the drinks on offer, including the frozen cocktails. Take the Jaffa Orange, made with vodka, aperol, orange and vanilla. Do note that Jaffa is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Citrico Cafe, Long Island City
Citrico Cafe specializes in Mexican cuisine and Agaveria drinks. This newer eatery is trendy and easy-going, with plenty of natural light. There’s indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy, so settle in for some relaxing time. Frozen-drinks wise, you can enjoy La Frozen Margarita. This classic tipple can be enjoyed on its own. However, you can also add mango and strawberry for a couple bucks extra. We can just imagine sipping one under blue skies, surrounded by friends and family. A perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon if you ask us!
We’ve put together a list of cocktail and mocktail recipes, whether you want to take a look at the ingredients to judge whether you should order them in future, or you’re looking to get hands on and make your own.
In celebration of Black History Month, we are shining spotlights on team members from Swingers Washington, D.C. and Swingers New York. Without their dynamic personalities, unique talents and contributions, our venues would not be the same.
